Holiday Decorating Tips

Decorate Your Home for the Holidays
10 Ways to Beautify Your Home this Season

1. Personalize your holiday
Holidays hold different meanings for different people. Personalize your holiday décor by picking a theme, whether it's colorful snowmen and Santas, or a more subtle winter wonderland of golds and whites. Once you pick a theme, you can find the decorations to match.

2. Holidays 2006: More than just red and green
Don't be afraid to incorporate warm, spicy color to celebrate the season: shades of gold, green, red and brown are popular design choices right now.  Check out some of our latest window fashion colors.

3. Create a winter festival of lights
When you're hanging those outdoor lights, don't forget the lighting inside. You can create a cozy ambience by using more candles than usual. Or try this: put some holiday light strands in a clear jar or vase, for a elegant, glowing effect.

4. Keep your guests warm and cozy
Sure it's cold outside. Make your home a haven with fluffy throws and pillows. And insulating window treatments can keep the coziness inside with style!

5. Think outside the (gift) box
Use wreaths for centerpieces, try putting colorful holiday ornaments into a clear bowl or thick vase, or use garland to decorate more than just a tree. The possibilities are endless!

6. Keep it simple.
Yes, you love the holidays. But don't overdo it: simplicity is the key this holiday season. Decorate your home with your favorite wreaths or other adornments, but try not to put them all in one place; your home will seem cluttered, and the beauty of your decorations will get lost.

7. Get rid of the everyday decor - for now.
As a general rule of thumb, you should put away one "everyday" object or decoration for every holiday decoration you set out. It calls attention to the season, and can keep things simplified and elegant.

8. Break (or modify) your traditions
Holidays are about tradition: traditional foods, traditional events - let your home be your break from tradition. Try something new. For example,  if you usually use a tablecloth, try a table runner and festive placemats. The holidays are a time unlike any other; your home should reflect that.

9. Add holiday sparkle
Here's an easy trick that can make a world of difference: add color and shine to trim work and doors with a semi-gloss or gloss paint in a shade that is complementary to the wall color. This will add some sparkle and definition to different areas of your house, without the burden of repainting an entire room.

10. Don't lose your senses!
Play soft holiday music, burn candles, prepare potpourri - create a holiday atmosphere that you and your family can enjoy with all your senses!
